This was one of the very first times we had traveled together as a couple. In fact, it was on our honeymoon.
Back in the day, the big deal on a cruise was the “Midnight Buffet”. It was a grand spread where there was food for miles, ice carvings of swans and dolphins, beautiful music playing and did I mention the food?
So we wander around the dimly-lit banquet hall, wondering what delights await us when I spy a big bowl chocolate mousse. I heap a pile onto my plate to go with the other morsels I’ve accumulated and we site in a romantic half-round booth. Heavy with anticipation of this exotic dessert I shovel a giant spoonful into my mouth and suddenly realize it’s not chocolate mousse.
Its liver paté!
When your drooling maw is expecting rich, deep chocolate and it gets liver, something exciting is going to happen. My etiquette training was immediately forgotten as I spit out the foul pudding and started wiping my tongue with a napkin, much to the embarrassment of my new bride.
We’ve had many adventures since then, but none quite so dramatic. What about you? What’s a time that you mistook something for something else?
